When we travel to new lands, it’s always feels right to pick up treasures that represent the place we visit. Luckily, you’re in Nashville. A distant cry from the big box stores, sample these small, indie-minded brick and mortar shops stocked with of-the-moment labels, chic housewares, and just because this is Music City, the occasional guitar.
Situated in an old filling station in 12 South, proprietor Holly Williams has stocked her sweetly-curated emporium with a rustic-chic general store vibe. Featuring an array of home goods, kitchenware, and giftable items including southern cookbooks and local grab-and-go groceries from purveyors like Bluebird Biscuits, there are also Ranger Station candles and organic skincare from Herbivore Botanicals.
Like its name suggests, this one-of-a-kind emporium, stocks women and men’s clothing, leather boots and just because you’re in Music City, a wall of musical instruments. For those who want to sample the collection, there’s a room called the “vault” where you can cradle rare Breedlove and Bedell guitars. Outside, you can’t miss the hippie-flared, tie-dyed VW bus parked out front—also perfect fodder for your Instagram feed (#peaceloverocknroll).
On Main Street, step inside this light-filled minimalist boutique for an smattering of classic designers like Carhartt WIP (for the guys) plus patterned prints by Ace & Jig and Mara Hoffman’s bold abstract wares (for the gals). For accessories, it’s all about beaded earrings and slim silver jewelry. And, rounding out the collection: small-batch Jenny Pennywood tea towels and beauty products by Earth tu Face.
From the former stylist Claudia Robertson Fowler, known to outfit country music stars like Faith Hill and Martina McBride, this 12 South shop caters to those looking for Southern-flared fringed pieces, caftans, strappy sandals, handmade straw hats and vintage mini velvet clutches. For inspiration, thumb through the coffee table books like Kishani Perera’s Vintage Remix and plan your weekend wardrobe.
In East Nashville, this hip home goods shop sells assorted home décor items including boho pillow cases and bold-colored, hand-woven Oaxacan baskets. Also noteworthy are the curated array of patterned rugs—featuring both new and vintage pieces (don’t miss the handsome, hand-knotted Turkish varietals) alongside cheery, washable designs from Lorena Canals.
